[VAbulletin] Statement from Policy Committee Chairman

Dear Kristin:

You apparently don't read very well. No one - or the statement sent from
the Policy Committee or the Division President - said that you could not
speak or write your thoughts, feelings or whatever about any situation.
They just stated to do it as an individual instead of hiding behind the
name of an organization for which you are not authorized to speak. Your
feelings about the UDC were made very clear in your response to the letter
but it is obvious that you did not understand what you read. As for me, I
am certain that my Confederate ancestors - and I have a LOT of them - are
very proud of me. And the members of previous generations raised the
monies to erect monuments and other ways to honor our Confederate heroes
and our organization still carries on the work of our foremothers today.
Your kind is what is running the membership down. All you do is whine and
put down the UDC and, with your negativity, who wants to join something
like that? If a member doesn't want to belong, why should a prospect?

As for the current situation at W&L, I wrote two letters to the President
of W&L, one of which he responded to and one member wrote a Letter to the
Editor which was published in the Richmond Times Dispatch yesterday. The
difference is that we don't have to be patted on the back for being "good"
Confederates and we didn't have to identify ourselves as UDC members. The
words meant the same, with just our signatures. Many, many UDC members
work behind the scenes to further our cause, without having to have our
names plastered all over the newspapers or receiving acclamations from
others.

In my estimation, you are all mouth and nothing else. The red hats and
brunches accomplish a lot more than you give us credit for and a whole lot
more than your mouthiness.

We don't need you and your negativity. You have made a good decision for
yourself and the UDC to resign.
